ABOUT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST
What To Expect:
Expect a very warm and friendly welcome with greeters at the door. Feel free to sit anywhere you would like. As you enter the back of the building, you will notice the Ladies’ restroom on the right, and the Men’s restroom on the left. Someone will assist you in pointing out the classrooms for your children if you have any with you.
The Bible:
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and indestructible word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; John 16:13; Matt. 24:35; Heb. 4:12; 1 Pet.1:25). It is our standard of authority; therefore, we do not use creeds or any man-made book.
The Church of Christ:
The Bible teaches that there is one true church which belongs to Christ. We read of the church being established in Acts 2 on the Day of Pentecost when about 3,000 souls obeyed the Gospel (Acts 2:22-47). The church originated in the eternal mind of God (Eph. 3:10-11). The prophets prophesied about the church (Isa. 2:2-3; Dan. 2:44; Joel 2:28-32; 2 Sam. 7:12-13). Jesus promised to build His church (Matt. 16:18). He made good on His promise as the church was purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet. 1:18-19). Christ is the Head of the church (Col. 1:18). The church is His body (Eph. 1:22-23). The church is His bride (Eph. 5:23). The church of Christ is not a denomination, but a body of baptized believers who have been called out of the world and into Christ by the Gospel (2 Thess. 2:14; Gal. 3:26-27)
Worship:
-
Our goal is to please and glorify God; therefore, we want to do what He has authorized in His Word (2 Tim. 3:16-17; Col. 3:17)
-
We want to do Bible things in Bible ways, and call Bible things by Bible names
-
We never want to add to or take away from God’s Word (Deut. 4:2; Prov. 30:6)
-
You will notice that we worship according to the pattern we read in the New Testament:
-
Singing: No mechanical instruments, no choirs, just the unmatched melody of congregational singing. You will hear human voices blend to glorify God, Who is the audience. Everyone participates, and you are invited to join us in singing praises to God (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19)
-
Prayer: Several prayers will be offered to God, including specific prayers for the sick and the bereaved (Acts 2:42; Jas. 5:16)
-
Lord’s Supper: Every first day of every week, we have the privilege of partaking the Lord’s Supper. We partake of unleavened bread which represents the body of Christ, and the fruit of the vine which represents His blood which was shed on the cross. This is a time when we can reflect back and mediate on His amazing sacrifice on the cross (Matt. 26:28; Acts 20:7; 1Cor. 11:23-25)
-
Giving: We are commanded to “lay by in store as we have been prospered”every first day of every week (1 Cor. 16:1-2)
-
Preaching: 20-30 minutes of a Bible-centered, Gospel sermon (2 Tim. 4:1-5)
-
Invitation: The Lord’s invitation will be extended at the close of every sermon. This invitation is extended to all those who need to respond, whether it is to obey the Gospel to become a Christian or to be restored. We would love to assist you in any way that we can (Rev. 22:17)
-
What Will Be Expected of You?
Nothing. You are welcome to participate or merely observe. We do welcome any questions you may have about worship, what is preached, etc. We do ask that you please fill out a visitor’s card so we can have a record of your attendance and follow up with you Bible Studies
